AES Encrypt & Decrypt
Encrypt and decrypt text with AES-256 using a passphrase.
AES is the encryption standard used by governments, banks and secure messaging apps.
About AES Encrypt & Decrypt
Encrypt text with AES-256-GCM using a passphrase, then decrypt it later with the same passphrase. The key is derived with PBKDF2 and each message gets a fresh random salt and IV, so the output is safe to share. Encryption uses your browser's built-in Web Crypto API and nothing is uploaded.
AES is the encryption standard used by governments, banks and secure messaging apps. This tool encrypts and decrypts text with AES-256 in GCM mode, deriving the key from your passphrase with PBKDF2 and using a fresh random salt and initialisation vector for every message. The output is a single Base64 string you can store or share, and only someone with the passphrase can read it.
How to use AES Encrypt & Decrypt
- Choose Encrypt and enter a strong passphrase.
- Type or paste the text you want to protect.
- Copy the Base64 output.
- To read it later, choose Decrypt, paste the Base64 text and enter the same passphrase.
Key features
- AES-256-GCM authenticated encryption.
- PBKDF2 key derivation with a random salt per message.
- Tamper detection: wrong passphrases or edited text fail to decrypt.
- Uses the browser's built-in Web Crypto API; nothing is uploaded.
Common use cases
- Sharing a password or note over email or chat more securely.
- Keeping a private snippet in a document or note-taking app.
- Learning how modern authenticated encryption works.
